Drivers looking to leave York this Christmas and New Year will be spared extra delays as Highways England lifts almost 400 miles of roadworks to help journeys go smoothly.
Highways England aims to complete or lift 148 schemes by 6am on Wednesday – leaving 98 per cent of its 9,534-mile network free of roadworks in time for the holidays.
In Yorkshire and the North East seven sets of roadworks are being lifted, as 17 sets have been completed, leaving nine sets of roadworks remaining for Christmas and the New Year.
Highways England Director of Customer Operations, Melanie Clarke, said: “Where possible, we’ve completed or lifted roadworks, leaving more lanes open and lifting many of the associated speed restrictions to help people travelling over the festive period.
