A website allowing patients to book a same day GP appointment from £24 in a pharmacy has drawn criticism as further evidence of the privatisation of the NHS. But creators of the website DocTap have said it is a convenient addition to the UK’s “free at the point of delivery” health service.
The service works by setting up locum doctors in pharmacies, using consultation rooms that would otherwise be empty. Patients can use the website to book a 15-minute appointment with a fully-qualified GP – five minutes longer than a typical NHS GP appointment.
