A research team has said that foods branded as probiotic, such as yoghurt and milk drinks, have little impact on the body.

Foods hailed as ‘probiotic’ have been called mostly ‘useless’ by a team of scientists who have been studying their effects.

Researchers at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel said foods considered ‘good for the gut’ have little or no impact inside the body after undertaking one of the most detailed analyses to date. Supermarkets today are full of foods marketed as probiotic, with yoghurt, milk drinks, kimchi and kombucha tea among the most popular.
