Many people with ME and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are told by their doctors that exercise will help them. This is often called “Graded Exercise Therapy,” though some doctors doctors will simply recommend “exercise”. Some people are also advised to exercise by their loved ones or others who care about them.
If your doctor is recommending exercise, you may find it helpful to read some of the stories on this page, and consider what is best for you. There are also links at the bottom of the page with scientific research and information that you can read yourself or share with your doctor.
Some people report that instead of exercising, they are helped by activity based on pacing. More information on how to practice pacing is at the bottom of this page.
Every person is different and ultimately the decision is yours to make. I hope that reading and learning as much as you can will help you make a decision that is right for you.
