A company has launched what it claims is a world first – a washing-up liquid bottle made of 50 per cent ocean plastic. The bottles, which are now on sale in the UK, are made from plastic collected in the clean-up of Rio de Janeiro’s bay ahead of the Olympics. Ecover has produced 250,000 bottles for sale across Europe from the eight tonnes of plastic fished out of the sea. Ecover spokesman Tom Domen said: “We launched our first ocean bottle in 2014 to raise awareness of the impact of ocean plastic on marine life. It’s great that the issue has shot up the agenda now but the debate for us needs to move on.
