For years, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) was a controversial medical mirage: did it really exist or was it just a figment of the imagination?

To a degree, that mirage has now been approached by the World Health Organization, The Royal Colleges Of Physicians, Psychiatrists and General Practitioners and deemed to be, in fact, a real condition. Yet, like many conditions, it is intangible, vague and with no clear diagnostic test. To highlight its own identity crisis further, CFS also goes by myalgic encephalopathy (ME) and post-viral fatigue syndrome (PVFS).
