Fraudsters attached a card reader to a petrol pump in York in an attempt to steal drivers’ bank details, it has emerged.
North Yorkshire Police were called to the Tesco station in Clifton Moor after staff spotted the rogue device on Friday.
Officers believe it was placed on the chip and pin reader at 5.20am and was there for an hour before it was taken down.
However, detectives say no card data has been captured due to the nature of the device.
An investigation is taking place and anyone with information should call 101.
